We had our 18 week ultrasound appointment yesterday (4-weeks ago due to late post) and it appears that everything is moving along swimmingly! We had the grandparents in for the appointment and they seemed ecstatic about being there.
How crazy is it to know that your wife is carrying a child, well more like an alien at present, in her belly. I can’t believe that in 5 months we are going to be parents. I may be 30, but I still feel like I kid myself.
Do I maintain my childlike mindset or do I automatically become a responsible adult and a father figure? Am I going to be my father? Am I going to be the disciplinarian or am I going to be the “Go ask your mother” type? Is it a girl or a boy (we didn’t find out)? Will the name we choose be the right name, or will our child be ridiculed because we name him/her Radish, Apple or Shithead (pronounced Shith-eed)? Do we cease from maintaining our lifestyle of going out to eat, hiking/camping, and mini vacations? So many questions and so few answers, but I guess that is all part of the excitement.
I am looking forward to the next 5 months, but even more than that I am looking forward to the excitement, stress and joy of being responsible for a human baby.

I have to plug my wife’s work for just a minute because she is awesome!  So check out some of her work!

30

July 29, 2010

It’s been awhile since I last posted, but I am back – a little wiser too, I might add.

My 30th birthday was yesterday and like any other milestone birthday (13, 16, 18, 21, 25, 30, etc) I was awaiting a drastic overnight change.  But alas, there was none.  I thought I would wake up with a profound new outlook on life, or with an achy back, or with a fourth cat (yes we adopted a third cat).

For the past few weeks my friends have been telling me that 30 is the new 20 and I am beginning to believe it.  It has only been 36 hours since my birthday, but I have been preparing for a few weeks.  I have been spending more time with my wife, working out more, reading more, drinking more, doing more yard work, getting to work earlier, and simply enjoying life more.

I am excited at what the next decade has to in store for me!

Good night.
